• I finish up with a lot of users ‘pending’. ‘registered’ but pending.

I get emails from my board saying whenever there’s a user needing my approval.

But when go there and look at the list of users I don’t really know how to sort them out. I generally reckon anyone with numbers after his name is fals – like johndoe342 sort of this. Or with a wild sounding domain like @gobblydook.ru or something. And I delete them or deny them.

But it is not very satisfactory. I notice that none of them have made a post. Because they can’t, I guess, until they get my approval?

I would like to set it up so’s they MUST make a post and then all those that have been there for a week or two or a month or something without making a post I’ll happily delete.

    Is that possible?

I went to register as a new user to learn what it is like from their end and sure enough looks like they can’t post a comment.

I did notice though that the registration procedure includes a text that tells the proposed new user that the admin will be notified and then the admin will decide and then they will ‘get an email telling them what to do’.

Well if I can’t make it they have to make a post perhaps I could edit that email? And in it stipulate that they must make a comment on a post I can put up for the purpose? Or maybe that’s a bit silly. Labour intensive. I could stipulate that they must email me direct? As admin. If I don’t get an email from them I don’t approve and all those I do I will approve.

    Are my best thoughts.

If there is a better system please, please, let me know. ??

  • Hello,

you have public registration open on your website and sadly lots of bots are crawling websites just for that, you can go through this article and follow the steps to mitigate.

That surely will help. You can also start using plugins that add captcha to your login and registration forms.

You can find those plugins here.
