How to show recently post?

Use the Recent Post widget that’s available with WordPress 2.2.

But what I mean is how to show it without using widget. What is the php code to show “recently post”?
because the template that I use do not support widget.

Okay, template tag, wp_get_archives(), shows this example:

<?php wp_get_archives('type=postbypost&limit=20&format=custom');

I use:

<?php get_archives(‘postbypost’, ’12’); ?>

Edit the number to whatever count you want.
