How to show number of comments next to “latest” list?

  • I’m showing a list of the latest 10 posts in my Sidebar.
    I’d like to show the number of comments in parenthesis next to each post title.

    this is the function I am using:

    <?php get_archives(‘postbypost’, ’10’, ‘custom’, ”, ‘

    Any tips?
