How to show icons on recent posts only?

Hello,
I am really new to WP and I am trying to make my first theme.

I need to show recent news items on a static frontpage, and i tried to add them using the code below:

Is there a way to show the icons only when i use the short-code? and if so what settings do i need to select for them to show up.

I tryed a combination of the settings located here, but the icons only show up after the homepage content instead where the shortcode lives:
