How to show front page post synopsis only (*not* excerpt)?

  • I want to show only the title and a post synopsis for each post on the frontpage of my blog. By synopsis, I *don’t* mean an excerpt of the post itself. Rather I mean a few sentences that don’t appear in the post itself which describe the post overall. Anyone know how to do this?

  • The excerpt is what allows you to create a unique “synopsis”. Depending on how your theme was coded, if the home page is set up to show the excerpt, then it will first show “exactly” what you typed into the excerpt area. If no excerpt was found, then it would default to the first lines of the regular post.

    hmmm. I can find no field in which to place a manual excerpt. Do you know where it would be? Or if there isn’t one, how can I modify my theme to allow this?

    When you are on the edit screen for Posts you should see two small tabs titled, “Help” and “Screen Options”.

    In the drop down, click on “Screen Options” and check the box next to “Excerpt”. This should display your excerpts section.
