I am not quite following how you envision it. Reading FAQ may help: https://qtranslatexteam.wordpress.com/faq/#LanguageSwitcherMenuConfig.

If you mean two separate menu items at top level, then you may insert two menu items and configure them differently?

Yes, indeed, I forgot that only one language menu gets processed. I guess, your next option is to use widget instead of menu? Two menu entries next to each other would look kind of strange anyway.

This article lists all available possibilities: https://qtranslatexteam.wordpress.com/faq/#LanguageSwitchingMethods

BTW, many people with two-language sites, simply show one the only alternative language in the menu. Showing active language flag or name does not help much, since it is not clickable anyway.

    Hi all,

I believe Rodenburg wants to show all (available) flags in a one-and-only top-level menu entry, even if current flag can’t be clicked. All the flags, in a row, next to each other. It’s mainly aesthetic but I like it too ??

I used to have the lang switcher like this, in early reincarnations of my site and qtranslate, but it was only possible with widget + css, not with menu-entry. Now I have no space for a language widget so I moved the switcher to the main menu, and since the website only has 2 languages, the AL-alternative language mode works out wonderfully like John says. But soon another language will be added and it would be nice to have this feature, showing all alternative lang flags with no resort to drop down lists in a menu entry.

What would be really cool (specially for 2-lang only sites using AL-mode and with responsive/mobile theme like mine or Rodenburg’s): the mobile/responsive design menu consists of just 2 icons, the menu-icon itself which makes the whole menu slide in from the side, and the search-icon. It would be nice to have another icon which would be the AL flag. That way, mobile users wouldn’t have to make the whole menu slide in and then scroll all the way down to realize there is language options, they would see it immediately. Of course this would only be usefull in a small number of visits so it’s not vital, but it would be nice.

For now and for most cases, the lang switcher it’s perfect, just like qTranslate X is turning out to be, my thanks to everyone contributing to this useful and wonderful plugin! ??
