    Greetings!
I am setting up my shop here and notice that I am unsure how I define which specific colour of clothing product is to be used as the default in the front-end shop interface. I have designs that are mainly light and mainly dark, yet all of my t-shirts and hoodies are listed with the black colour and not only is that a bit repetitive, but i cannot sell dark designs.
I can see that I have an option in the product viewing page in the admin area to choose whether all colours are available in the shop or not, but whatever i set that to it doesn’t change the default.
    What have I missed?

    thanks

    Hi!

Unfortunately, choosing a default colour is currently not supported. We’ll look into improving this in the near future.

Thanks for replying here. I see, that is unfortunate as I’m not sure I can use your services until that bug is fixed. Do you have an ETA for it?

This is not a bug. It was simply not predicted by the current design. When you click on some colour’s name, it gets selected to show you which variant’s image are you editing (although, I do see how it can mislead you to think that it’s selecting the default one).

We intend to go through the overhaul in the near future, but this plugin is not our only product using the same interface, so it’ll take time to redesign it and then to implement all the changes across our platforms. I am sorry to say that I don’t have a time frame for you.

I see ok, I don’t really understand why the code would be designed to not allow the advertising of black designs, for example – that cannot be seen on the default black t-shirts and hoodies (and are thus unable to be seen and sold in the shops). In any case, I appreciate your quick and clear responses here.

I must admit that I don’t completely understand your problem. I get it that “black design on a black shirt” is a bad default variant, but isn’t it then also just a bad variant, default or not? In other words, why not just disable that variant for that product completely, along with the other dark ones, and just leave that product, with that design, having only light variants? Am I missing something?

I am sorry I cannot help you further for now. I will keep in mind to add “choose a default variant” option in the future.

oh, i just saw that your first post was edited and that in the original version you added this text that actually helps me resolve the issue:

“The default, as it is now, is the first enabled colour. So, if you disable the colours that are not appropriate for your design, the one that gets selected as default should be appropriate”

not sure why you removed that, but using your pointer that i can enable/disable different colours, i have been able to get the correct colours listed in my shop’s adverts. i didn’t realise i could click to ‘tick’ or ‘untick’ each colour.

Ah, sorry for that. I thought that the first response was missing your point, so I edited it. Bad judgement on my part.

I’m glad that it helped you. I’ll still keep in mind that the default variant would be a useful feature.
