How to set New User Default Role to author

  • Is it possible in WordPress 3.8 to set a specific user role as the default for new registrations. I would like all the users who register for my site to have the default user role of author.

  • Yes, you can set new users default roles via wordpress admin.

    -> Login to admin panel
    -> Go to Settings
    -> There will be option to set new user default role under
    “New User Default Role”.

    -> Select author in there and save.

    You are done!
