How to set featured image in 3.5?

    Hello,

    I am sure this has been discussed already, but I cannot find a topic via a search. I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to set a new upload or an existing gallery image as your featured image on posts in 3.5? The button ‘set as featured image’ seems to have disappeared with the latest version and featured images are very important to the front page of my website.

    Do you not have the “Set Featured Image” link in the “Featured Image” box on the post editing page?

    On the Edit Post page, look in the upper right hand corner for the “Screen Options”. Click it to drop down the list of boxes that you can display on the page. Make sure “Featured Image” is turned on.

    Thanks so much, I did not know about this option! Your advice is doubly useful because I was unaware of the excerpt box also. Thank you very much again for the rapid response.

    There’s no “Featured Image” box on the Screen Options of my “Edit Post” page! And yes, I’m usind WordPress 3.5

    Make sure this line is in your themes functions, if it isnt, add it:

    add_theme_support( 'post-thumbnails' );

    How to I resize an image set as a featured image? Secondly how do I align the image set as featured image, by default it seems to be aligned to left and on the top left corner. I want to set it to centre or anywhere in the blog as appropriate. Thirdly how do I set a url link to the image to allow the users to open the link in a new page? Presently all these features are allowed only in “Insert Media” feature and now WordPress is not allowing one to set the Insert media as a featured image. Help will be greatly appreciated.

    Good one Swetha… With the older version of WordPress you could simply upload an image and set it as a feature image, and now with the newest version this changed and i tried just about anything to figure this out!!! I’m not a comp mag that’s for sure, but i wonder if this computer stuff should;’t be made easy enough for anybody to understand? So… My question is:

    How to set up a feature image at all?
