How to sell a cow?

Is each cow an individual product? Or do you just want people to buy a part of the whole herd?

Each cow is an individual product. I want people to be able to buy predetermined factional portions of a cow up to 100%

The easiest way would be to give each cow a stock of 8 then let the customer would be able to buy as many 1/8s as they want.

That’s a good idea.

Ideally, people would be able to select one unit of the right amount and the remaining possible combinations of the rest of the cow would be calculated. Is there a plugin that handles something like this?

To achieve the sale of predetermined fractional portions while keeping the remaining percentages available for purchase, you could look at the Product Add-ons extension.

You can create individual products for each cow portion – 1/8th, 1/4th, 1/2, and full cow. Ensure these products are clearly labeled with their respective weights or portion sizes.

Next, utilize the Product Add-Ons extension which will enable you to offer predefined fractional purchase options for each cow product. For instance, if a customer selects the 1/2 Cow product, the add-ons could include options such as 1/4, 1/8, and so forth. Similarly, for the Full Cow product, the options could be 1/2, 1/4, etc.

Ensure that the stock management settings are appropriately configured. When a fractional portion is purchased, the corresponding inventory for that portion as well as other remaining fractions should be accurately reduced, while still keeping them available for purchase.

Price the fractional portions proportionally based on the total cost of the entire cow. For instance, if 1/4 of a cow is $500, the prices for 1/2 and Full Cow should reflect the proportional cost.

In the product description, clearly outline the available purchasing options and fractional combinations. This can be done using a table or detailed descriptions to help customers understand the various fractions available for purchase.
