• OK, I am ready to set up RSS on my blog. I know what RSS is I just am a bit confused as to how I implement on my blog.

I am using Sidebar Widget and there is a RSS 1 module waiting to be activated.
    1) What do I put in the RSS feed url box?
    2) Is a feed title important as it is marked as optional?
    3) There is a drop down menu listing how many items would I like to display. Ten (10) is the default.

Also: when I click on RSS feed icons at the top of blogs I get a window with a lot of stuff. What do I do with this stuff?

  • Are you trying to create an RSS feed or display one? The widget is only for displaying one from somewhere else. If you’re just trying to create one, it’s already there. Try adding /feed/ to the end of your URL (assuming you’re using permalinks).

    rogerthat. thanks again!

oops, the widget from displaying somewhere else = so i can only grab one url per module? and why would i want to display one from somewhere else? you mean like technaroti? hit the link and tell folks my site is there favorite sort of thing?

Basically, yeah. I use one to include a calendar feed which shows my friend/family birthdays in the sidebar.

    Ok, almost there…

1a) The RSS feed icon normally at the top of the page is the feed to syndicate that site. Right?
1b) note: in my META section there are RSS feeds for “entries” and “comments” = what is the difference?
    2) If I want this site to send me info/updates etc., I use this link. Right?
    3) If the above is true, what do I do to make this happen…

1a) Probably, but depends on your theme. Click on it and see.
1b) Visit each link and see. You’ll notice that one is a feed of entries you post, and one is a feed of comments that your visitors post. You’re probably more interested in the “entries” feed.
    2) It won’t “send” you updates (by email), but it will work in a feed aggregator (which might give you the option of receiving email digests).
    3) Get a feed aggregator. (https://www.google.com/search?q=feed%20aggregator)
