Hello all. I’m pretty new to wordpress and I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. I’m having a few problems though, one being that I want to restrict certain users from posting in certain categories. The way my site operates as a forum in that users can post questions to their problems and have others users comment to answer them. Also, an admin or author can post articles, videos, and contests in our blog in which other users can comment on them as well. I want to add a feature where users can create posts of their own, which will show up in a community page.

The problem I’m having is that regular users have the ability to post in all 4 categories.
For a visual representation this: (https://i.imgur.com/lrtVd9l.png) is what the “add a post” page looks like for all users on my site. I want regular users to only see the community category, while admins can see all of them when posting. I plan to add more categories for regular users, but I wanted to be sure I could take care of this hiccup before I proceeded.

  • Hi

You can use Restrict Author Posting plugin.

Thank you, but this plugin isn’t compatible with my version of WP apparently. I think I’m on 4.4.2 and this hasn’t been updated since 4.3.3. I tried to use it and was still having the same problem.

    Hi again

Actually, just before sending my reply, I installed the plugin in my development environment (WP Multi-site 4.4.2). It worked perfectly.
Maybe you forgot switching the user from admin (yourself) to other users (with the restricted roles), You can use user switching plugin.

    Hope that helps.
