Greetings. I’m using a child theme called 4All by Momizat.

I was advised by a WordPress member as well as a developer some time ago to send unused template pages to the trash bin so that I could potentially use them later (and refer to for copying code, etc.) So I really need those deleted pages. I’ve just noticed, after a few days of updating my site, that most of the items in my trash bin have been auto-deleted.

I didn’t know, based on what a member advised earlier, that items would be auto deleted.

What would people recommend for getting all those pages back without having to restore the whole site from a backup, which would wipe out all my recent changes? I’m not even sure when the auto deletion occurred, though I’m sure it’s been in the last few days. Or could I restore just what was in the trash? (I use UpdraftPlus Backups.)

In addition, being a WordPress novice and not knowing Web code except for at the most basic level, where do I go to change the number of days at which the auto deletion occurs, or else turn off auto delete function altogether, if that is possible?

    Thanks and best.

  • well you can make the pages drafts instead of putting them in the trash .. its probably better… also if a page is in the trash you can’t make a page with the same name … its a glitch you will run into

I would install a new version of wordpress on a subdomain in your hosting account

    temp.yoursite.com
most hosting accounts with cPanel are easy to do that
    then import your backup

and manually copy over the pages you need

    Or
make a new user in the temp site
assign the posts to that new user name
    set them as drafts

then you can export only that users pages/posts

then import them into your main site
and reassign them to admin or whoever

Thank you, JumboClicks. When I restore what pages I have left in the trash, is it better to mark them as drafts or private? How to best ensure the public can’t access them?

And would this work: Can I go activate the parent theme and view those old template pages whenever I wish, or would that somehow corrupt the pages of the child theme that I’m building? I believe that when I changed over to using the child theme, I left the old parent theme pages as published for public view and did not send them to the trash.

Would it also be wise to change the # of days when the trash auto empties to some huge number?

    Best,

I found out how to restore the pages based on my particular premium theme:

“in theme package you will find folder called XML in this folder you will find demo_content.xml ..

import this file from wordpress dashboard -> tools -> import -> wordpress

all pages will be back again”

    Thank you.
