• I tried to fix the facebook thumbnail in function.php by adding code to the bottom of that tab, updated and the site went down. I immediately removed the code that I pasted in, updated and the site is still down.

It says Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home6/sflatino/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyten/functions.php on line 511. But there isn’t a line 511.

    Please help.

  • Do you have a backup?

If not, let this be a lesson in backups for the future!

    You could:

    1) Search for all instances of < and check to see there is only one.

    2) download a fresh copy of Twentyten from WP and just use the functions file to see if that fixes it.

Thanks. I downloaded a fresh copy and am still getting the same error message.

Have you changed any other files?
    Check those.
Revert to a backup of last good version.

solace10 I can’t open any other tabs. It seems I’m completely locked out.

Confirmed. I’m can’t access a login page and the site is down with the same error message.

Would suggest a reinstall from backup.

If you want me to troubleshoot this for you, you will have to supply site URL, login and FTP details. I’d be happy to take a quick look.

gin – I can’t do anything without the FTP login details.
I understand if you don’t want to share them.

In which case, you can try to download and reinstall a fresh copy of Twentyten theme.

If that doesn’t fix it, you could reinstall WP.

Can you recall which files you have been working on ?

The only alternative is to contact your hosting provider and ask them to help – though most providers don’t tend to offer troubleshooting support.
