• Hi, I was upgrading from 2.2 to 2.3 and when I upgraded my database I lost my categories (had to run twice the upgrade since I forgot to turn off wp-cache).

Now I’m stuck with a 7 mb xml export file and can’t find a way to upload it. Will it work if I split it?

  • You can split it up Felix, but if you have access to the max_file_upload in your hosts php.ini file, you can temporary change it to 8 megs to accomidate the larger file.

i have over 9 years of entries that i exported into an .xml file.. so it’s two times larger than the “2MB limit”.

so how do you split up that xml file? does the header info need to be in each file? i don’t want to have to try an .sql dump.. because i don’t know much about sql at all.

Test in a local install of WordPress. A split xml file will surely work.
