How to rename or remove parent theme templates?

I have created a child theme from a parent theme that has numerous templates generically named template-1, template-2, etc. I need to either remove some of the parent templates or override and rename them.

I have managed to remove parent templates from the template drop-down list on the page edit screen, however the templates still show on the Quick Edit’s template drop-down list. Haven’t been able to find a solution to that, so the next best solution would be to override and rename the parent templates.

I have already overridden a parent template but can’t figure out how to rename it so the custom name shows up in admin. Does anyone know how to modify the names that show up in the template dropdowns?
