How to rename all already uploaded medias filename with special characters?

  • Hi,
    Is there a way or a plugin to rename all the medias filenames from the library in order to remove all accents or special characters?

    I tried Media File Renamer but it doesn’t work. If we force to rename the filename, it only modifies the database entries but not the image filename on the server (even with appropriate rights).

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you for your response.

    For example, I have an image with the following attributes :
    Title = forum méteo2015 29 mars n 2 207_72dpi
    Filename = forum-méteo2015-29-mars-n-2-207_72dpi.jpg
    Address = https://www.domain.tld/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/forum-méteo2015-29-mars-n-2-207_72dpi.jpg

    When I rename the filename to forum-meteo2015-29-mars-n-2-207_72dpi.jpg, the title and the address are updated too BUT the filename on the server is not updated, so it results a broken link to the file.

    Note : I can modify the filename only if I choose the Force rename option.

    The Force Rename will rename filename in the database even though the physical filename has not been renamed successfully. Don’t use that option! It’s really there to help people repair their broken install (I have been asked for this option and it can help).

    Many servers don’t see difference in méteo and meteo. The renaming would basically do nothing in that case. But I might actually have an idea. Could you contact me by the form on my website directly?
