This is probably because the home url is still https.

If you don’t want the site to redirect to https, I would recommend to deactivate Really Simple SSL in the plugins overview.

So no way to have both active like other sites?

You want your site accessible both over http and https? For Google that is not advisable: this would create duplicate content. This is the reason Really Simple SSL adds a 301 redirect.

From a security viewpoint, it’s like putting a lock on your door, but leaving the window open.

But if that is what you want to achieve, you don’t need Really Simple SSL. As you already have an SSL certificate, your site will already be available both over http and https.

That breaks content too much, browser misbehaves and doesn’t load the “other side” of the SSL content.

Ain’t worried about what google says, I’m not selling anything but what I broadcast over the air.

In that case you only need the mixed content fixer, which is possible with safe mode.

To use this, deactivate the plugin, then activate using these instructions:
    https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/using-safe-mode/

Then, when the site is loaded over https, the mixed content fixer will activate.

    Awesome.

(It is because I have some bots that access the site looking for content, the bot’s do not speak SSL.)
