• Hi –

Recently updated WP site plugins and got 404s in traffic report for old plugin files. I submitted content removal requests in Google Console for all of the old files but still keep getting 404s for them (after a month). Anyone have same issue? Have you been able to fix this i.e. stop getting 404s for old site plugin files? Thx

  • 404s are great. They help you see what content you might be missing and the better you know your content then you might do a redirect to relevant content you do have.

Once you settle the 404s with new content and/or redirects the search engines will find that and fix themselves. It’s a win-win if you play it right.

Um, sorry but you’re saying what about how to fix these 404s of old plugin files that I can’t manually remove via Google console like any other content no longer live online?

Moved to Fixing WordPress, this is not an Everything else WordPress topic.

If the files/pages/URLs no longer exist then don’t worry about it. Why worry about 404s? Google will sort it out eventually.
