How to remove index.php from URL

  • Im new to Apache stuff, I was woundering if some of you could direct me too the right steps into removing /index.php/ from the URL of my site.
    Im not exactly sure where to start, I tried changing the permalinks to custom, and having just /%postname%/ but it seems it has to include the /index.php/ or else I get a 404 error.
