How to remove images from excerpts

I would like to remove the images placed automatically in the excerpt. Infoist grabs whatever image is on the page even if the image comes from the very bottom of the article. It then sticks that image at the very top of the excerpt. That’s not going to work for me, I need to halt that function. Does anyone know how?
