• I just started using the auto publicize feature on Jetpack which is great, BUT, because it is automatically choosing a featured image when it posts to Twitter, half my title and text gets cut off. How do I disable the featured image function just for Twitter? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the report! Could you provide me with a few examples of the Tweets that include the cut off image? Then I’d be happy to take a look, and see if there’s anything we can do to help.

    Hi Ryan,

Sure, here are two tweets I posted today which cut off the title:

I want to be able to not have the auto-tweet include the image so that there is more room for text. Can you help me with this?

    Thanks for the extra details!

I’m afraid that’s not possible right now, but I added your suggestion to this GitHub issue:

I’ll post again here as soon as we make progress on this.

Thanks Jeremy. Can you suggest any other ways I can ensure my full title is included in the tweet?

I’m afraid the only way would be to keep the number of characters of your custom Publicize message under 90 characters. That should leave you enough space for the link and the image.

OK I’ll keep 90 characters in mind. Is there a link shortener setting at all? Please let me know if more features get added.

Is there a link shortener setting at all?

Twitter automatically converts all links to its own URL shortener, t.co, so all links you post on Twitter, regardless of the site you post from, will be 23 characters. Using a link shortener won’t help here.

Please let me know if more features get added.

I’ll post again here as soon as I have news for you!

This shouldn’t even be an issue anymore – according to Twitter’s own announcement, media (and other stuff like @names) do not count towards the character limit anymore:

    https://blog.twitter.com/express-even-more-in-140-characters

I just tried that and manually added a photo to a tweet, the character count remains unchanged. Perhaps it is different for tweets generated by Jetpack? I haven’t tried it.

So the only thing that limits it is the link, which is, as Jeremy said, always 23 characters.

In my tests, images appear to take 20 characters off the complete character count. That feature you linked to doesn’t seem to be available for tweets posted via an app like Jetpack yet.
