how to remove /blog slug in wordpress

I am trying to remove the /blog permalink structure in wordpress 2.8.6 without moving the content files into root dir of my website, so it will be https://www.example.com/this-is-my-post rather than https://www.examle.com/blog/this-is-my-post.
I have been trying to find a solution on the internet but all plugins and methods only work on prior versions of wordpress,
if you know how to do this on the current version of wordpress 2.8.6, please help me out! greatly appreciated
