• Hello,
I posted the message below yesterday, but didn’t get any responses. I think that I didn’t make my situation clear. I used the FAQ and tried to install a backup, but I get an error message in myphpadmin.

    Thanks,
    Doug

Hi, very much a newbie here who needs help. I started a blog about two weeks ago. Six days ago it kind of disappeared. When I would go to my site it would just see the “index directory”. I also couldn’t log in to my admin area.

I have a new installation now, but none of my prior posts. Fortunately, I made a backup 2 days before the mysterious disappearance which is on my computer as a “tar.gz”.

How do I get this into my “new” blog installation?

I have gone to “myphpadmin” and tried updating that way. I get a long error message that ends with this:

    ERROR: C1 C2 LEN: 2 3 72239
    STR: ?

Does anyone know what I need to do?

Thank you ahead of time for your help.

  • 1. Decompress “tar.gz” file with 7-zip or one you use, you will find something like 20090709something.sql – note, ending in .sql
Then follow the simple instructions here:
    https://tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/restore/

P.S. before logging in to your WP admin, make sure that DB username, password etc is the same as the one you have in your wp-config.php

    Hi Mercime,
    Thank you for your response.
I have decompressed everything into a folder on my desktop. I have looked for the “20090709something.sql – note, ending in .sql” that you said I should find but I can’t find it.
    Where do I find that?

Another question…when I go to “myphpadmin” I find 3 databases listed.

    Database Ascending Collation
    frustra1_dailytar latin1_swedish_ci
    frustra1_wp01 latin1_swedish_ci
    information_schema utf8_general_ci

I don’t know why there are 3 or which one to click on. I do assume though that I click on frustra1.

Then I went to the url:https://tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/restore/
In step 2 it states to make sure to have full backups of all the tables. How do I do that?

Then in your final P.S. you state “make sure that DB username, password etc is the same as the one you have in your wp-config.php “
    Does DB mean database/
I don’t know how to check this. Is it written somewhere in my wp-config.php? And if it is different, do I change it there or somewhere else?

I am sorry if these questions same too rudimentary. I truly am a newbie at this and obviously have a lot to learn. This forum seems to have so many knowledgeable people that give great support and advice to us complete beginners.

    Thank you for your help,
    Doug
