    Hi @richards1052

    Thanks for using MetaSlider.

Your screenshot here is almost entirely a list of images. Is it possible that you’re using too many images that are too big?

If all these images are loading in MetaSlider, it might be worth reducing their size or using a plugin that can optimize image size.

All of these images are in the MS slideshow. I can try to reduce their size, but they’re already sized to display in the slideshow 515×335, which is not a large size. Or should I reduce it furtherr? It shouldn’t matter what the original size of the image is in terms of how long it takes to display, right? I also have my images optimized.

Does the number of images in the slideshow impact display speed? It is a large slideshow, many images.

    Hi @richards1052

Yes, 100%. Even if you have small images, having a lot of images will add up and likely cause a message like this from Google Page Insights.

I have 140 images in the slide show on my home page. Is there any way I can reduce the server load short of removing slides? If I do remove slides, how many would be a reasonable number to retain, that wouldn’t cause enormous server load?

Is there a way to break the slides up into different slideshows displaying in the same location on the home page? That doesn’t seem likely. But I’m trying to figure out a way around this.

Having 140 images on a single page would likely slow down your site.

You can try to reduce it down until you will no longer see the error from your Google Page Insights.

Even if you break it down into different slideshows, but if you’re still loading them into the same page at the same time, the results will still be the same.

@arreane: I was suggesting having 2 separate slideshows on the same page, but not loading at the same time. One slideshow would load and cycle through all its images and then the second would load and cycle through all its images. That would mean half the load over 2 slideshows instead of the full load over 1 slideshow.

Event if you separate them into 2 slideshows. The page load time count will still be the same. Unless you create a custom ajax code to render your slideshows separate from the initial page request.
