• I have a WP site with many categories and each post has a few tags each. When I use the Search field of the site, it shows results that include tags (which is perfect).

I mis-tagged a post. So for example, lets say Post1 had the tag “red”, search results would show that post for a search of the word “red”. Then I discovered this was wrong, removed the tag “red” from that post and instead added “blue”. Now when I search for “red” this post still shows up in the results. When I search for “blue” it’s not showing up.

Same problem exists when viewing directly by tag URL. eg:
    Still appearing under: https://www.example.com/tag/red/
    Not appearing under: https://www.example.com/tag/blue/

Could someone provide some insight as to why this is? I cleared all caches (server & autoptimize).

  • Hi,

Have you tried to deactivate all the plugins and clear the cache again? A plugin like Yoast SEO, for example, might be keeping things the same. Also, activating a default theme like Twenty Seventeen before clearing the cache would be a good idea. You need to eliminate everything that’s not from WordPress by default before checking things closer.

No I did not deactivate plugins or change theme. Doing these things on a live site is uhh… anxiety inducing to say the least. I’ll try to make a staging copy to experiment in…

    Hi,

Trying to do this change on a staging website is a great idea. Please let me know how things work ??
