How to query an ACF repeater field?

First of all: Amazing plugin. It simplifies everything ACF related so much!

I am stuck at the moment with an ACF repeater-field that I design for a download page.

The problem: Every item in the repeater has a subfield “cat” that defines the category of the download – lets say values are audio, video or document. I want the output to be a title “Audio” and then the items with the subfield audio, then a h1 Video and the items with the cat video – you get the picture.

Another way to frame it: I would like to have a repeater field combined with a query regarding one of its subfields. Is there a way to do that?

What would be even more fancy: a loop of the repeater subfield “cat” and within that a loop of the items of this cat value.
That would be awesome-awesome.

Is there any direction you could point me to?
