• Hi Everyone.
I have just abandoned the obsolete Microsoft FrontPage, I’m fully engaged with some sites in WordPress, but I don’t know very well how its engine work. So I need my first help.
I’d want to publish a file that I uploaded into the root via filezilla, and also dragged into the wp mysite media, but cannot see it published.
    The link is like this:

    https://www.misyte.com/myfile.pdf

There is a way to get it published directly? If not I will lost the links to the tons of files I had published with Microsoft FrontPage.
    Thank you in advance.

    Stefano

In WordPress you can upload one or more PDFs and insert a link to them into any post or page. You can upload them via Dashboard > Media or while editing a page using the “Add media” button. If you do this, the pdfs get uploaded to the wp-content/uploads folder.

Or you can simply link directly to PDFs that you’ve uploaded via FTP. You would do this by editing any page, selecting some text and using the icon to insert a link.

Not sure it’s a good idea to put them in the root folder, maybe move them all into their own directory, and doing it this way you lose the advantage of being able to manage them from the Media Library in WordPress.

Thank you Jason King for responding me. The issue is that I don’t want to lose the direct link the file had when it was hosted in a non-wordpress system by inmostionhost.com.
I would want to get the pdf immediately opened, directly.
    https://www.agopunturascientifica.it/Giornata-Nazionale-Agopuntura-Italiana-2015.pdf

On the contrary at the same host, but published in a non-wordpress system, the link direct opens the pdf:
    https://www.ago.it/Giornata-Nazionale-Agopuntura-Italiana-2015.pdf

    Maybe there is a trick… I hope ??
    Regards,

You’ve given two different domain names, so are you not just changing CMS, you’re also relocating the website to a different domain?

In WordPress, just create a link to wherever the file is. If the file is on another website, different domain, or just in a different folder – whevever – no problem, just link to its location.

But if you do want to move the PDF files and want the old urls to still work, you could set up “301 redirects” – which can be done manually or using a plugin.
