How to prevent unique products being added to cart more than once?

  • Hi,

    I’m working on a WC shop that sells unique handmade jewelry (i.e. 1 single item each).

    If someone buys a product, the product in question disappears from the product listing so that it can’t be ordered a second time. So far, so good.

    But if a product has only been added to the shopping cart it’s not only still visible in the shop for other users (which would be fine), it can also still be added to their cart by a second user. How do I prevent this? I.e. how do I reserve/block a product for a specified time span (in my case: 30 mins) as soon as it’s in someone’s cart?

    I assume that there’s a simple solution for this?

    It seems ‘Hold stock for x minutes’ doesn’t work for me. Neither is the stock reduced/reserved when products are added to the cart (as explained above) nor is the cart automatically emptied again after 30 minutes (or whatever time limit is set).

    Any ideas?
