• We are getting form submissions from many countries, but our service area is just one metropolitan location with in the U.S. The form advises users of our service area, but they make submissions anyway. What’s the best way to address this?

Where can we see the website in question?

Note: Your property must be within our DFW Metroplex service area.

I couldn’t get what this sentence means at all. So do most people on the earth, I think. Why don’t you improve the note?

Thanks, I updated the form. You can have a look and tell me if you think it is more clear.

However, the submissions we are getting from around the world do NOT look like serious requests, so I am not sure that being more clear about the service area will help. The submitters are not using it to request a roof inspection, but for things like requesting a job (from Pakistan or Dubai, for example).

I now seem to be getting just as many or more submissions from non-USA submitters. I am wondering if the site should geo-locate the user’s IP and not display the form for those outside the U.S., but maybe there is a better solution? I am sure others have experienced this problem, so there must be existing solutions available.

If you don’t want foreigners to use the form why don’t you just write so?

If the “spam” submissions have common keywords in them that are unlikely to be in genuine submissions then add them to WordPress Settings -> Discussion -> Disallowed Comment Keys.

I cut down a lot of spam this way – it may take some months to add relevant keywords but it works well.

@takayukister It says “USA only” in two places now, but I’ll see about adding another warning before the submit button.

I have revised our landing page to be clear that we want only submissions for property in the U.S. and we do not want applications for employment via the form, but we are still getting submissions from around the world. I am thinking I might look for a simple way to not display the form for IP addresses outside the U.S., but I am wondering if there is a better solution.
