• hi

I’ve set up my website with some static pages.

I only want my ‘blog’ page to be active and receive comments.

Do I create a new page for the blog or is that automatically on the auto generated home page?

How can I have my blog as a page called ‘blog’ and post to that?

Currently when I go to ‘create a post’ it then appears on my homepage, not on my ‘blog’ page.

    thanks for you help

  • Under settings -> reading you can set up a static page and point your posts to another page you have created.

i.e. create a page called blog and simply use this as your posts page under the settings.

    Hi,

Create a page called “Blog” and another page called, for instance, “Home”.

Then you need to indicate in Settings -> Reading, what your Front page is (Select Home) and what your Post page is (select Blog).

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

I see those options but … on my website the first page is ‘home’ but there is no ‘home’ listed on my dashboard in ‘all pages’, so therefore when I go to Settings, Reading, drop down list for static front page, there is no ‘home’ option listed.

    How can I rectify this?

Create a page called Home. Pages -> Add new.

Thanks guys. I tried that Sandra but then there were 2 home pages, it seems there is an auto home page not listed in the ‘all pages’.

    I’ll try that link Marviepons.

The default setting of WordPress is just that it outputs all posts on the first page ( aka home ). So that’s why you won’t see any ‘home’ pages under the pages tab by default.

Thanks so much for all your help, easy when you know how! Thanks for sharing your knowledge ??

    That link was perfect marviepons, right on the button;
    ‘ Navigation Bars

Some themes have a top navigation bar containing links to Pages. By default most themes set “Home” as a link to the home page – in this case the static front page. Since you have created a separate page with the title “Home”, there is a likelihood of having two “Home” links in your menu.

To remedy this, edit the appropriate template file featuring the code of the navigation bar with the template tag wp_list_pages. In 99.9% of WordPress themes, this is the header.php file. Set the parameters to change the link title. In some cases, commenting (disabling) or removing the the line in the theme’s code that displays the ‘Home’ link will do the trick. ‘

Before you edit the header.php file, you may also want to check if the theme you are using enables you to create your own menu.
