• I used to do a daily Scripture blog which I wrote in email and then copied and pasted into my WordPress. It always retained all my fairly simple formatting (tab spaces, red letters, paragraph spacing.)

Several months ago this stopped working and it has become SO labor intensive for me to have to manually edit line after line, it takes just too long for me to do this in a timely manner. WP doesn’t let you bold or change color of more than one item at a time when selected (!), nor does the WYSIWYG retain tabs or spacing – it all has to be re-added in HTML.

My questions are: why does the “paste from Word” not work or do anything any differently than “paste from plain text?” Pasting from Word should keep the formatting, no? Otherwise what’s the point of it?

I used to do this easily from Mac Mail (when I was running Tiger) but once I upgraded to the latest Mac, it no longer works. I’m willing to do it in Word if it will allow me to cut & paste into the blog, but it loses red lettering, spacing, etc, so….?

Is there any way to cut & paste from another source and keep the formatting?

    Thanks!

  • No, “paste from Word” intentionally gets rid of formatting because Word formatting is not compatible with website code. Word adds all kinds of garbage code that can cause major problems.

I don’t know of a Mac application (Windows Live Writer is one for Windows) for what you are asking – though there could well be one – try googling it – but you might try a plugin to add functionality to your Visual Text Editor – one possibility:
