How to only count unique visitors

I have noticed that if the cookie is set for the a/b page to show and if I go onto another page on the site, then visit the a/b testing page again, the plugin records this as another visit. It would be helpful if the plugin only recorded a visit when that visit is not new to that page, i.e. no cookie is set fore max ab. Every time I click back on the a/b page (note, not reloading, this seems to not record it as another visit), the visitor count goes up.
