• We have years worth of posts on our site that were published before implementing MailChimp and AutoChimp. We’ve found out, through some embarrassment, that updating an old post to fix a link or typo results in it being sent out to our entire mailing list. We want this for new posts, but not for updates to older posts.

I didn’t see a checkbox in the posts for not sending it (would be a good feature to have!). Short of de-activating AutoChimp when we want to update an older post, is there anyway to stop it from being sent out as a new campaign on update?

    thanks,
    Luann

  • luannvodder did you get an answer to this. I am having the same issue. I cannot for the life of me work out how to stop it.

There is an option under Campaigns, make sure it is checked:

Create a campaign only once. Not checking this option will create an additional campaign each time you update your post. Recommended ON

Yeah did that, makes no difference. If you make any changes at all to any post, it sends it out. I actually changed a posts access level from available for free to only available to paid members and it posted to everyone on the database. I am struggling with this plugin, it just isn’t flexible enough, I’ve reverted to RSS Driven Campaigns in Mailchimp to solve my problem. Thanks for the reply though.

I came up with what has turned out to be a clever solution for our purposes. AutoChimp allows you to only mail out posts that are assigned to a certain category, so I added a new category and set it as the default for all new posts, and then set AutoChimp to only send out posts set to that category. This will prevent any old posts from being republished if they are tweaked for minor corrections. ??

That is very clever, thank you for that. Tell me, was the process of getting the merge codes in your templates to wrok difficult, I’m also struggling with that. They just don’t work. Perhaps I am not setting up my templates correctly, but all I get are the merge codes int eh mailouts, not the content they are supposed ot be grabbing.

Gosh, I wish I could be more helpful on the merge codes. I just don’t remember exactly how I did it (and they’ve changed the template authoring interface since then). When I look at the template, I see that I used these merge codes to insert the title and body of the post into the template:

    *|RSSITEM:TITLE|*
    *|RSSITEM:CONTENT_FULL|*
