    Optimizing website for speed.
    I would like to show website in Russian by default mariarts.me hitting, but without redirect.
    Setting “Use a subdirectory for the default language” with putting Russian on top yields correct language by default but with redirect to subdirectory /ru.
    Removing it yields no redirect but with English by default on load.

    Hi,

    I do not understand very well what do you want to achieve? Can you try to explain to me again, please?
    Also, what is your default language, the Russian language?
    Our plugin works with subdirectories. If you chose that option “Use a subdirectory for the default language” at the default language will be added the subdirectory.

    For the new visitors, I need to first show in Russian but without subdirectory. Russian is not default now, English is default.
    I see 2 solutions:
    1. Make Russian default. But for this I have to rewrite all the possible texts in Russian. Otherwise you cannot make non-default language default, right?
    2. Leave the same setting with ru/en subdirs enabled, but apply some hack to remove “ru” subdir. Is that possible?

    Hi,

    If Russian is an additional language will always have a subdirectory with the language slug. Just the default language is exempt from having a subdirectory when is selected.
    This is how our plugin was designed to work.

    The single solution here is to make the Russian language default, but then, as you said already, you will need to change the original content according to the current language.
