I have modified my theme a lot [part of the standard install of WP – based on Kubrick design]. When I upgrade to 2.3.1 how do I avoid messing up my theme?

I’m thinking if I can get hold of a list of changes, it will be easier to alter my file than try to make changes in a new file. Or maybe not.

I have a heavily modified css file – has anything new been added to the css file that I need to include in my own?

What has changed in the theme file in 2.3.1?

If you’ve modified the default theme (wp-content/themes/default) then you could NOT upload that folder.

In recent updates, widget control and the presentation of tags have been added to the default theme.

If you have a proper backup (WordPress Backups) then you have insurance that you have your old files intact before you begin…

Nothing changed in the hemes or CSS.
However, since WP 2.1 there were quite a few changes in [[Template_Tags]. See which were depracted and study the new ones.
Compare your template files whether they use any of the deprecated tags. If yes, the theme will break… Replace the old tags and you should be good to go.
