How to not have a page take over an archive?

I have created a page called “Pine Trees” pinetrees.php

I want to use it as my category (like a front page) page for Pine Trees.

It works. It looks how I want.

The problem is when I go to an article and click on “Pine Trees” on the categories links “Categories: Trees, Pine Trees, North America” it takes me to a weird version of my Pine Trees page, where the “title” is no longer “pine trees” but is now the title of the newest post. When I click “Back in time” I get another page just the same, except the title of the page is the top post that would normally display on this “back in time” list for the Pine Trees archive.

How can I stop my page template from taking over the Pine Trees archive?
