    Hello,

Can somebody tell me what is the best way to stop (media) attachment pages from indexing? I read excluding the (media) attachment sitemap. Will that alone fix it?

Or should i toggle the ‘Media’ meta robots to noindex also, under titles & meta’s/post type ? Or do i noindex all my actual images also when i do that? I just wanna noindex my (media) attachment pages, not the actual image itself, also for future image uploads.

    Thank you so much

  • Hey bro! Have you found an answer to this question because it’s honestly one I’ve had for months now? I own an moving company in Austin and am using the Yoast SEO plugin and it allows you to 301 redirect attached images to their original post but I have a ton of other images that aren’t attached to any post? (for instance the logo that I uploaded to the site has its own attachment page that is completely being indexed https://siraustinmovers.com/logo/ along with a bunch of others).

Not to mention I have a ton of other posts that I have set to publish on a schedule and because I’m creating them ahead of time (and uploading all the media to my uploads folder at that time), they all create attachment pages that won’t be redirected until that post is published, if that makes sense…

Have you solved this problem? I have to be honest I’ve searched in one form or fashion for weeks on how to solve this issue and you raise the first question I’ve found that actually gets to the heart of the matter I’m trying to solve. Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Adam

PS I don’t want to noindex my actual images, just the attachment pages that are created when I upload them through the WP media uploader…

    Hey Adam,

I think i fixed it bro. I just deleted ALL the atachtment pages in WordPress, manually. You can do this by going to the media library and than click on a image. There you will find the attachment page. Delete it (the image itself will not be deleted).

After that i excluded the images from the XML sitemap, in the Yoast plugin. After Google recrawled your website/sitemap the problem was gone, i think. Attachment pages are still being created when you upload an image. I think you cant stop WordPress from doing this.
