How to move select data from WP blog to another WP blog?

Hi;

I plan on replacing a friend’s website with a blog that looks like her web site. The site has a lot of material and the project will take a long time. My plan is to make two wordpress blog installations on the same server: blogTemp and blog.

blogTemp will be a quick and dirty blog I will integrate with her static site so that she will be able to post “news” items while I work on the rebuild in the blog named “blog”.

Once “blog” is done I would like to export all of the “posts” ( in a single category I will name “news” ) from blogTemp into blog. Then will delete blogTemp and her her domain point to “blog”.

Can I do this? Can I export specific post categories from one WP database to another? If so, how?

Is this the smartest way to do things?
