• So I have an interesting problem. My host accidentally blew up my website through a technician’s imcompetence. Because it was their fault, they spent a few days fixing it.

The problem that I have now, is that they left all the old wordperss files at the base level, but those files are no longer accessed. There is now a /backup folder, with wordpress and everything else installed there.

I’ve tried deleting the other files and moving it back to the main directory, but when I do my website won’t load up. Because I have two installs, its wreaking havoc with plugins and other stuff, and my host is refusing to do anything now that the website is technically up again.

Anyone know what’s wrong here? Is there a file somewhere pointing to the installation? I don’t see why it’s a problem where it is installed.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Didn’t your hosts have a backup copy of your site? If so, can’t they restore that? Your site is most definitely not “up again” and your hosts should really be sorting this out for you.

Do you have access to the original databases?

It’s frustrating, but even though I pay for backups, they said that there weren’t any. And I’m pretty new, so it turns out I wasn’t backing up my databases correctly. I’ve learned to do it the right way now, but my backups are useless.

So I’m stuck trying to figure it out, while my host won’t do anything.

No. I have no access to the original database. The host says it’s gone, and my backups are useless. So I have nothing.

I am so sorry but there really is nothing that we can suggest, I’m afraid. Without the databases or some good backups, there is no site to restore. All I can say is that, if these were my hosts, I’d be kicking them into touch & going elsewhere with my business.

Thanks anyways. I guess I can try building it elsewhere then. What a pain that will be since there were 100+ posts.

And I’ve been on the phone for hours, emailed them, fought with them. I just get nowhere, so I guess I have to go elsewhere.
