How to modify the calendar layout

Hi, I am a new developer and would really like to customize the layout of my front page calendar. Here’s a picture of how it’s looking now.
I would like to make all of the buttons at the top appear on the same row (categories, filter, month) instead of two. I saw it looking this way in a screenshot and couldn’t achieve this effect through the built-in options.
I haven’t dove deeply into the code yet; I wanted to know if that was necessary.
