How to modify my template so the body/read more link work

How can I modify my template so that I can control where the body of my post goes in my template? I also have a “read more” link I’d like to go to the URL of my post. I’ve been through the mailchimp docs and can’t seem to figure out how to do this. Has anyone accomplished this?
My content area is wrapped with <span mc:edit=”main”> and it did not populate with content from WordPress.
