• I had a WordPress blog on another server that I wanted to move to Bluehost. Trying to get the archive onto Bluehost was taking for ever (it turned out my old server was running a newer version of SQL than bluehost’s) so I started a new version of the blog. It was taking so long to get the problem fixed that now the temporary blog has fifty posts. It also looks the way I want it to look (https://www.hthse.com/wordpress/).

Now that I’ve got the old database installed, I’d like to merge it into the new one so I can keep my new configuration and my new posts. One note: the old one was created with an older version of WordPress. The new blog is running on the current version.

    Any thoughts? Help!

    Thank you much,
    Hothouse

  • Multiple possible problems.
The database structure (tables) has been changed since earlier versions, so a simple export/import might not work.
When merging two databases the biggest challenge is that most likely you have a post ID#=1 (or any other number) in both places; same for the comments ID#. The two identical ID would be in conflict.
I can’t remember any easy solution for this – which doesn’t mean there isn’t one out there.
