    Hi,

I have images, that are created from raw images with xmp sidecar. Therefore my mets data in the resulting jpeg file are xmp instead of iptc as in other jpegs.

I tried to get i. e. the xmp Description tag into the Caption field, when I upload the photo. So I tried it with a template:

    template:([+xmp:Description+])

But this does not work. Is it possible at all with MLA? If so, what am I doing wrong?

    I would appreciate your help,
    Gerhard

Thanks for your question and for your patience in awaiting my response.

The syntax for your template looks correct to me.

I had a quick look at the travelstories.at site and downloaded one of the images from the Derrynane page (/2018/03/20171006_145030_IMG_3261.jpg). I don’t see any XMP metadata in the file; perhaps it has been stripped out by an image editing or optimizing program.

I did find this description of XMP Sidecar files:

    XMP Sidecar Files

If your XMP metadata is stored in a separate file I regret that WordPress has no facility to upload these files when the corresponding image file is uploaded. The current MLA version can only extract metadata from the image file itself.

If you can post a link to one or more image files that contain XMP data you want I can investigate further. Any additional information you can provide will be helpful. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

Thank you very much for your response.

I am uploading jpeg which were generated from raw images + sidecar. I have just found out, how it works with help of XMP_ALL pseuodo tag: Some XMP tags have to be used with lowercase first letter, some are uppercase and others are only available in an array.

So everything works, now that I know how to write the tags in the template. The solution was in the documentation, but not easy to find.

Thanks for clarifying your methods and for the good news that you were able to find a solution. I am happy to see the ALL_XMP pseudo value helped you explore the XMP information and find the right syntax to access the information you needed.

I realize the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab is more a reference than a tutorial and I appreciate the effort you put in to studying it.

I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions regarding the extraction of metadata from your image files.
