How to make the log in page my default index page.

I am creating a site https://www.randompiecesofwood.com and I wanting to make my site require users to sign up and to also log in before viewing my content. I am sure there is a simple way to do this but I can’t for the fe of me figure it out. I found a post but it’s six years old and the solution did not work for me. Thanks in advance.
