How to make the chat NOT pop up on every page even after closing it once?

Is there a setting that makes it possible to disable the chat window popping open on every page the customer visits?

This is what I experience in every browser I’ve tested in:

1. Chat popup window shows when entering the site. That’s fine.
2. If I click on the chat icon the window stay closed when browsing the site. That’s fine.
3. And now the trouble: When clicking the “X” window continues to popup on every page when surfing the site. Obviously it should close and have same behaviour as point 2.

Please note: It only happens sometimes!
