• When creating a page in the “edit page” section how do I make space between items on the page? Say I want to put a heading, paragraph of text, a picture, an opt in form and then more text.

I want it to be spread out like this.

    Heading

    text

    picture

    opt in form

    text

In the editor I hit enter a couple times between each item to make a space just like with any other program to but as soon as I either click the html tab or update page it will jam everything together like this.

    Heading
    text
    picture
    opt in form
    text

And if the heading is H1 or H2 size and more than one line the text of the 2 lines will often overlap.

    In html putting
or <p> can create a space between items but how can I do it on wordpress?

  • If you’re comfortable using HTML markup and want more control over the layout of individual posts or pages, turn off the Visual Editor.

I don’t know how to turn the visual editor off other than just going to the html tab. I prefer to use the visual editor only I would like it if it would actually save what I visually enter into it instead of it doing it’s own thing like deleting my line breaks.

It’s a Visual WYSIWYG editor! It’s meant to do its own thing!

It’s supposed to do it’s own thing in the code but what I see is not what I am getting in the end even if I use the html tab instead of the visual tab.

If you want the spacing effect that you describe on your final published pages/posts, that’s best achieved by editing your site’s CSS – not via markup. The Visual Editor’s behaviour is correct in that it will attempt to apply the appropriate markup to the content that you enter but there is no markup for “extra spaced blocks of content”. That’s a CSS/display issue and – as such – is well outside the Editor’s role.
