Have you looked at the static front page feature added to WordPress at version 2.1?

First off, upgrade. You’re running 2.1.1 (or so it says up there) and there’s a huge bad thing in there. (There’s a sticky at the top of the forums about it, as well as a notice in your dashboard when you log in)

You can convert the Category into a Page, and then use a setting in your “Options” to set that Page as the index page. You just check a box and it’s done.

Alternatively, if you want to keep it as a category, you can – but you’ll have to be careful. Be sure it’s not the default category, because if you put in any other posts without selecting the category, it’ll default to the one you don’t want to change. You’ll also have to create a “home.php” file and add in some coding with post queries to get it to display how you want it to.

So, if you’re not familiar with coding, then I would suggest changing the category to a Page, and setting it as the index in your options.

If you *are* familiar with coding, and don’t mind working on it a little bit to retain your category status, then you can have a look at this.

Thanks. I am using Netfirms to host my website and downloaded WordPress from Netfirms. I think the version I am actually using is 2.0.1 of WordPress. I have downloaded the newest version of wordpress to my desktop……now how to I install so I dont loose anything. Ive been known to screw things up from time to time. ??
I at least know that I go into my Netfirms control panel and into file manager. Thanks for your help!

Do a database backup first. Get wp-db-backup.

Thanks, I did get the wp-db-backup plugin. When using it, I get a page that says I am not allowed to do a back up. Ugh…..
    Any ideas? Thanks! ??
