    Hi,

Been testing out the plugin. Noticed that when using the search box on map to find/add locations, some business names show up while others do not. All of these businesses tested are listed on Google business listing search results. So, I’m confused why some would show up in the auto-suggest (as you type the business name/location) while others do not. Is this a limitation of the basic map search free API that could be upgraded/improved to more accurately show all Google verified business listings in the auto-suggest list?

The main reason I’m asking is because, aside from letting user use the auto-locate GPS coordinates, by far the easiest way for a user to quickly add a new location to the map would be to start typing in the name of the business. Most users will abandon the process if there are too many steps involved like searching for business address, copy/pasting it, etc. They will just give up because it’s not super easy to add the listing.

Any thoughts on this idea? Thanks!

    Hi @wordmax,

the auto-suggest feature is based on Open Street Map as provider. I’m relying on OSM because Google has API limits and would need additional authorisation. OSM is very good but not as complete as Google, but that is kind of the deal I need to make – because I want to keep Open User Map free from any API Key / Registration process.

Maybe in the future I will add an extension to use Google’s Service instead but this has no high priority to me at the moment.

    Best regards,
    Daniel

Thanks. I totally understand with the Google maps API bait and switch for $$$ they did in recent years. That was probably their plan all along. Get people hooked using maps free API and build a captive audience. But…

Hivepress listing plugin has an option for Mapbox API which is very good at finding 99.x% of locations based on business names or addresses (auto suggest results as you type). I believe mapbox has a pretty generous # of free API calls before they ask for $.

Give it a try (mapbox API) hivepress demo (add listing) start typing in the “location” field on the add listing form. You’ll see.

Yeah, Mapbox is great. However it still needs an API registration and API Handling which I want my users not have to struggle with.

But you are right, I should probably consider to prefer using Mapbox instead of Google Maps eventually.

    Thanks, Daniel
