How to make featured image full width/header

I am using the Editorial Plus theme on https://www.nookgaming.com

Can anyone inform me how I might be able make the featured image act like a full width header on post pages? So it would take part of the image and show it at the top. That and to remove the header image, but only on post pages.

Could this be done via the additional CSS section or a plugin or setting? Or would it require editing the theme?
